Calling All Creatives!

Heat days canceling school, wildfire smoke keeping kids inside, rain flooding homes. Kids today are living with the realities of a changing climate, but they have little opportunity to learn about it in school. And too often what they hear about is doom and gloom. With Planet Media, we want to flip the narrative and focus on hope and solutions. We want to empower young people in understanding: Our world is changing, but together, we can make the changes we need for a brighter future.

And we need your help to do it!

The Aspen Institute has a long legacy of convening experts in their field to drive change through dialogue, leadership, and action to push forward a positive impact on the world. Since 2020, one of our cornerstone projects, This Is Planet Ed, has worked to advance climate solutions in formal education (Early Childhood, K-12, and Higher Education). We want to deepen our impact by inviting children's media creators into the dialogue.

We know parents and kids are looking for engaging, inspiring, and hopeful content that can help them understand the world around them. We’ve teamed up with The Nature Conservancy. Our climate scientist and educator partners have simplified the key elements of climate understanding into 4 simple principles and now we are looking for pitches for captivating short-form content that brings them to life. That’s where you come in!

The goal of the Planet Media Call for Pitches is to generate creative ideas for short-form content to support children ages 8-12 in understanding 4 essential climate principles focused on hope, humor, and solutions. Ideas will incorporate key climate messages through a variety of creative approaches, including animation, live action, music and more. Selected finalists will pitch before a panel of reviewers in March at the annual Aspen Ideas: Climate Miami Beach. There, a final round of pitches will be identified to work with a production team to make the content.

We know you are busy, and we don’t want anyone to jump through unnecessary hoops. We’ve designed the pitch parameters to be specific and simple. We are not looking for perfection or layers and layers of detail, just a good overview of what you are envisioning as well as your portfolio.
