Mitigate
Learn about how America’s public schools have substantial environmental footprints. Schools use large amounts of energy, land, transportation, and food. Schools can work toward sustainability to reduce their environmental footprint.
Adapt
Climate change is already increasing extreme weather events and impacting communities and schools across the country. To continue supporting students in a changing climate, schools must adapt and build resilience.
Advance Equity
The negative impacts of climate change fall disproportionately on low income communities and communities of color, and yet they are too often underrepresented in conversations about solutions to climate change. Schools must center equity and follow the lead of these communities to advance environmental justice.
Educate
Educators are uniquely positioned to prepare a new generation of students to address climate change. Educators can support teaching and learning on sustainability, the environment, green jobs, and climate change to help ensure students are equipped to advance a more sustainable future.

Net-zero schools produce at least as much energy as they consume. Net-zero schools often use a combination of renewable energy, such as solar energy, and energy conservation efforts.
What Are Electric School Buses?
Electric school buses run on electricity instead of diesel fuel, which eliminates harmful tailpipe emissions. Electric school buses are beneficial for the environment and health, and can even cost less over time than diesel buses.
What Are School Gardens?
School gardens provide opportunities for students to learn about the environment and sustainable food by growing and harvesting produce.
What Is Green CTE?
Green Career and technical education (CTE) programs prepare students to enter the workforce with a focus on sustainability and prepare students to succeed in a clean economy.
